to paris with love | london ontario photographer

Like so many others in the world, my heart was heavy as the news of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris fire spread. Paris holds a deeply special place in my heart and Notre-Dame is as special a place as I have been. I don’t think I’ve ever shared photographs from my travels in Paris, but in light of the news sharing a few from Notre-Dame feels like a small way to honour my memories of her, her stories and this new chapter for her and for Paris.

It was art history that began my love for Notre-Dame. It seems like Paris or Notre-Dame was a major player in every art history course I’ve ever taken, ever (only a slight exaggeration). I first visited Notre Dame at 17 and I’ve been so very lucky to visit her more over the years. I’ve sketched at her doors, lit candles, made wishes, climbed the centuries-worn stone steps to the bell tower (387 to be precise), made friends with the gargoyles and gazed skyward at her spire - All the while in awe of her presence in the world for over eight centuries. So lucky, I was, and I knew it - yet I still took for granted that someday I’d sit in her presence again, just as she was. I’m heartbroken for what’s been lost and for the people of Paris, but hopeful for someday. ♡

Be still my heart. These two tiny boys, their very big, (VERY sweet and gentle) fur-sister and their superstar mom and dad had my heart melting at every turn. Double the love, double the joy…double the everything ;)

They are a wonder. Truly.

Welcome, little ones.

Big sister didn’t love when her baby brothers were sad, but she was never too far away to keep an eye on them. ♡♡♡♡

I was so excited to meet Baby G! It’s been my pleasure to photograph her family since the birth of her big brother…my other buddy G :) And she is as lovely and sweet as I knew she would be…and from the moment of her arrival, adored. An arrival that just happened to include being DELIVERED. BY. HER. DADDY.

Welcome, Baby G!

farewell 2018, you were lovely.

Another trip around the sun. Another look back, in order to look forward again. Oh. My. Heart.

Thank-you 2018, you were lovely.

This year’s song choice is a sweet little favourite…a SHORT favourite: “Happy Everafter In Your Eyes” by Ben Harper. The struggle to feature all sessions and clients was very real. In the end, it was impossible. Lol. Mental note for next year :)

I’m very thankful for this look back - it forces me to pause and reflect on the year that’s passed; to revisit the stories and special moments that were shared with me. I hope there never comes a time when I don’t shed a tear (or a bazillion) or laugh out loud or sit with a silly grin while I pour over the year’s images. Thank-you never ever seems to cut it, but I am thankful beyond words. The invitation into your stories and precious moments is a gift and the ultimate trust - my heart is full and so very grateful.

Please enjoy this year’s love note from me to you.

With a grateful heart.

Only love.

caleigh + ryan | london ontario wedding photography

How sweet are these two? The answer is SO SWEET. Caleigh and Ryan have been sweethearts since high school (heart swoon!!). Their wedding day was a tailor-made affair full of special moments and so many heartfelt details. From the bride getting ready in her childhood bedroom surrounded by her family and her girls, to the exquisite venue, Revival House and the beautiful blooms from Grow and Bloom Co.- love truly is, and was felt by all, in the details.

Congratulations, Caleigh and Ryan. Wishing you love and happiness always.

the value of a photograph | london ontario portrait photography

Stolen from my own Instagram page ;)

I’ve probably said these words at one time or another, but here I have to give the credit for them to my beauty of a husband. He said them the other day with intention and such clarity - it was like a Christmas cracker full of sparkles went off and I was hearing them for the first time. (He’s very good at this btw. ) I feel these words in my bones, they are undeniable in my heart, but my artist/dreamer mind sometimes struggles with getting to the root simplicity of things...lucky for me he’s got it mastered :)

The value of a photograph only grows over time. Truth. A record of the past - a memory you can revisit and hold on to. A gift that is more precious with the passage of time. All truths.

Photographs made me a photographer. My earliest memories are of sitting on the floor surrounded by old photographs. Photographs of the grandparents I would never meet, photographs of my parents being parented and family I longed to know in places far away. Photographs of a time and world I might never have known had it not been for those images. ♡
Fast forward to me picking up my camera everyday and creating photographs - the memories that will be held in the hands of loved ones in the years to come. It’s a feeling of awe mixed with understanding the meaning of documenting personal stories, all wrapped up in pure joy when I stop to realize that I LOVE what I do. Truly. ♡
Photographs are so important to our sense of belonging and personal histories. 9 times out of 10 the ones that are cherished are the ones that you didn’t know were taken, the ones you didn’t know you wanted, the ones that pushed you into ‘real ness’ and out of the show of it all, the ones you may have deleted off of your phone had you been in charge ;) The investment of having someone truly see the value of a moment or a photograph before you do, is priceless. Whether it’s me or another photographer creating the image, the value of a photograph only grows over time. Truth. .

This was one of those newborn sessions that had a beautiful flow from start to finish. Baby T was so sleepy until the very last moment when she opened her eyes to say hello :)
